Summer Balfanz

Summer Balfanz - High School Student and Smoke-Free Volunteer

Summer Balfanz is a Roseville, Minnesota, high school honor roll student who has been active with the junior varsity cross country running and Nordic ski teams. She is a member of the speech team and volunteers with Minnesotans for a Smoke Free Generation. As a student coalition member with the latter organization, Summer Balfanz represents her municipality statewide. She coordinates education and local outreach efforts, including mental health support. She has successfully lobbied state representatives on anti-vaping, smoking, and flavored tobacco-related legislation.

In the spring of 2025, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids honored Summer Balfanz and the Ramsey County Student Action Team as the Group Youth Advocates of the Year at the 2025 Youth Advocates of the Year Awards in Washington D.C.

In addition to these endeavors, Ms. Balfanz volunteers with the Ramsey County Library in Roseville. Active as a babysitter, she has child care assignments several days a week and maintains CPR and first aid qualifications.

Ms. Balfanz has attended creative writing workshops across her state. As an assistant teacher with the North Suburban Summer Academy, she provided the teacher with support in planning lessons and coordinating field trips and creative activities. Summer Balfanz worked one-on-one with gifted and talented students in navigating a Greek mythology-focused curriculum.
